The cocoa beans for these wonderful bars come from the spectacular Kilombero Valley in the heart of Tanzania, Africa.
Based in the small village of Mgingu, the Kokoa Kamili cooperative produces this heavenly cocoa. In fact, in Swahili, Kamili means “absolutely” and Mgingu means “heaven.” One taste and you’ll agree this chocolate lives up to its origins.
We tested dozens of roasts and grinds to find the ones to make this cocoa sing. If you’ve tasted other Tanzania bars, you’ll be amazed how sweet and delicate this chocolate is.

Cocoa Origin:
Kilombero Valley, Tanzania
Ingredients:
- Certified organic cocoa beans
- Certified organic cane sugar
- Certified organic cocoa butter
Sourcing notes:
The Kilombero Valley is bordered by the Mbarika Mountains and Mahenge Highlands in the south and the Udzungwa Mountains on the north. Near Mgingu is the Udzungwa Mountain National Park, which is famous for its bird, primate, and elephant species.
Farmers in Kilombero have been practicing organic farming by default for generations, meaning that their cocoa trees have been grown without any pesticides, inorganic fertilizers, or other chemicals. Kokoa Kamili has been certified organic since 2015.
Kokoa Kamili buys directly from the cocoa farmers, without any agents or middlemen, and pays above market price. Along with a central fermentation and drying, this ensures consistently uniform, high quality cocoa beans.
